Liposuction

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure aimed at reshaping the body contour. This is achieved with the help of a very thin tube called a cannula. The cannula enters the affected area (local fat) through incisions that are a few millimeters without leaving scars or scars after surgery. Liposuction is ideal for areas of the body with accumulated fat that, despite attempts to lose weight through exercise and diet, have failed. The areas with local fat are usually located in the abdomen, mainly around the navel, the lateral abdominal walls (love handles), the buttocks, the thighs (buns) as well as the limbs (knees, arms, etc.).

Surgery and rehabilitation

The operation, depending on the extent of the problem, can be performed under general anesthesia or with local anesthesia in combination with intoxication in a operating room.

Due to the modern techniques that the surgeon has at his disposal, recovery is easy since after a few days the patient can return to work. During the first twenty-four hours, small swellings (swellings) or bruises may appear that subside quickly, because after the operation it is recommended to use a special corset that does not appear under the clothes. The patient uses this corset for about a month in order to heal faster, ie to reduce swelling and the formation of curves. There is usually no pain, but in case of some discomfort in the first days, simple painkillers are very effective.

Result

The final result becomes completely apparent after about 2-3 months. The results are permanent and the body acquires a new shape. The points of liposuction do not change behavior in relation to the rest of the body. That is, in case the patient gains many kilos, the point of liposuction will thicken depending on the rest of the body but in the new shape that has been given to him surgically. The residence time of the results is completely related to the patient’s eating habits as it happens to the rest of the body.

Additional options

The fat that has been removed during liposuction can be used – (autologous fat tissue transfusion – fat transfer) with special techniques in other parts of the body that need volume such as the breasts to grow and the upper buttocks. Finally, it can be used to reshape the face and improve the quality of the skin after a special treatment. These are combination surgeries that will be discussed with your surgeon during your consultation visit.
